'Language Scraps'

With the texts I write, I explore a field of language that lies between English and French, looking for parallels, false friends, morphing, code-switching and mixing, looking for accidents and misunderstandings. Moments of accident and misunderstanding can be the most fruitful for producing poetic or transcendental meaning. I mix all sorts of subjects, from the everyday to art, music, culture, political criticism and a level of absurdity for which I am often indebted to 20th century Irish writers such as Flann O'brien.
Comparisons between music and art are frequent and the hybrid use of French and English forms a kind of metalanguage in the texts. Sometimes I explain the experience I'm trying to make. For example, 'Ô Brink' is about both a margin between art and music and the side of the habitats of animals on the side of the motorways.
Music can be formed around the concept, like 'misaccordieusementalisation' or 'Dilettante Frustratta', where the sound is organised in a very geometric way to follow the process of morphing, degeneration and reformation.
There's a lot I could tell you about the music as well... it's quite often the subject of my abilities; there are a lot of rough edges. I tend to build compositions in layers by using a drum machine to start a rhythmic structure, then adding a flow of spoken or half-sung text. These are normally the first elements, then I build around that with guitar, analogue and electric synths, granular samples, backing vocals etc.
The accumulation of these layers often leads to a distortion of the text and adds texture.
